The part that adds the XXXtreme element to this game are the wild multipliers. Now the wild stars can have up to 150x multipliers, which of course significantly increase the winning potential. Also now the game offers guaranteed wild stars- for a cost of 10x your bet, you are guaranteed to get one wild star, while for 99x your bet, you're guaranteed to get 2 wild stars. For me this seems way too expensive, I've done a few spins with 1 guaranteed wild, and for the most part the wins were smaller than my bets. And in regards to the 2 wild stars feature, I believe it's too costly and can easily result in a dead spin, especially since the game no longer pays both ways.
Having said that, I stick with the regular free spins and I've had a few decent hits on it, due to wild multipliers. My best win was around 200x bet for a combination of bars and wild stars.
Overall I do like this game, I like the classic yet improved design and the features are unique. However, if you're buying the guaranteed wilds, it's very easy to lose money quickly, simply because the game has higher volatility and pays from left to right. So if I have to chose, I prefer the classic Starburst over the Starburst XXXtreme.
