The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has profoundly affected and shaped the way we view things, particularly cleanliness. All businesses that produce and distribute cleaning supplies or offer cleaning services are in high demand. That applies to the casino industry as well.
With that in mind, let’s consider the interesting story of Clay Dubois. Dubois has a technical background, and prior to opening his casino chip-cleaning business he opened the Wynn Resort in Macau. During his time selling chips to casinos, he would frequently get asked how he cleaned them.
A revolutionary idea
That gave Dubois the idea for the chip-cleaning machine, which operates on ultrasonic sound waves, as well as basic soap and water. The whole process takes only 12 minutes. In an hour, the machine can clean up to 20,000 chips. As Dubois himself pointed out,
You know their only alternative was to clean them by hand, which would take four to six weeks, or order new chips, which would take eight to twelve weeks.
Dubois established his business back in 2018, in an effort to combat norovirus. He dries the chips in a convection oven at 145 degrees, which is even more than the WHO recommends for rendering the new coronavirus inactive. Since he was already prepared for this type of situation, his orders have skyrocketed in the past few months.
After the pandemic ends, the number of orders may go back to normal. Even so, Clay Dubois’ business is a revolutionary one, and as more and more people learn to prioritize cleanliness and good hygiene, it’s our hope that the casino industry will continue to recognize the importance of such businesses for a safer future.
